“I often think of Bagend. That’s where I belong. That’s home”
Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit
Hello, and welcome to the very first edition of the brand new Rustic Retreats blog!
Since we welcomed the first guests to our off-grid yoga and meditation retreats in the foothills of the Sierra Espuna mountains, we’ve built up a large and growing community reaching to all four corners of the globe.
For a short time, Bagend becomes their home. Yogis and yoginis from all over the world have come to our tranquil valley to escape, disconnect from their busy lives and reconnect with themselves - mind, body and soul. We try to make sure each and every one feels nourished, comfortable and like they belong to the big Bagend family!
It’s been so fun, inspiring and unforgettable meeting you all. So much so that I want to all transport you here to the sweet-scented orange groves of Bagend on a more regular basis, through the wonder of the web (and a little Bagend magic…!) with our new blog. We’ve decided to start writing weekly to reach out to our global family, not to mention friends we’ve not yet met!
The 2016 retreat season is about to begin, so we thought this was the perfect time to start!
What’s the Bagend Blog All About?
In the coming months, we’ll share with you all of the exciting goings on at Bagend, news and announcements about the retreats and exclusive special offers. I’m sure the Marmadukes will want to have their two pennies worth, too!
I’ll be your guide (with ‘Stick’ firmly in hand!) around the local area, sharing the best of what our little slice of Murcia has to offer – the Sierra Espuna mountains, the hill fortress of Aledo, the markets and attractions of nearby Totana, the best restaurants and much, much more.
Wondering what it really takes to live off-grid? How we live day-to-day relying on sun and spring water, and what exactly rustic really means? I’ll answer all of these questions on the Bagend blog in the months ahead, as well as any others you might have about what to expect from us here at Rustic Retreats. Look out for more details on what’s been happening on our off-season, too – earthbag domes, a very special, Tolkien-themed mural from Charlotte Kessler at Lemonstone Art and more.
Stay tuned for interesting articles on all aspects of yoga and meditation, too, with our own off-grid, Bagend twist! All of our experienced teachers bring their own knowledge and specialisms to our classes and workshops,f rom Hatha, Yin and Kundalini yoga to Ayurveda, massage and mindfulness. Meet them here, where they’ll be happy to pass on their valuable knowledge.
Each season, I’ll publish one of my favourite vegetarian recipes from the Bagend kitchen. First up, my Winter Warmer, a Spiced Butternut Squash and Apple Soup, next week here on the blog. I hope your tastebuds can wait that long?! I’ll also answer the question on everyone’s lips – ‘What on earth do you do with all the lemons?!’
Look out for all of this and much, much more on the Bagend blog. We’d love to hear from you all too – we’ll feature testimonials and the voices of retreaters who’ve been here, so you don’t just have to take our word for it! If you’ve got any suggestions for articles we’d love to hear from you, too! Leave a comment or get in touch. In the meantime, keep an eye out for the next post, or ‘Like’ us on Facebook for updates when we post something new.
Want to get away from it all and engage with your mind, body and spirit in beautiful, secluded surroundings? Come and join us in the Spanish sun for a week, and settle into the Bagend pace of life. It really is quite special. We are all set for the 2016 season, and we are booking up fast for the Summer, so get in quick!
Thanks for reading our first blog from Bagend. We look forward to seeing you all next time!
