This pre-winter retreat invites you to reflect and reconnect with your root energy, building foundations that will take you through the winter months.
In Bagend the citrus fruits are still ripe on the tree, but the days are beginning to get shorter, and there is a drive among all of nature to reconnect and preserve energy. You will strengthen your connection to and understanding of your body and progress your practice, both on a physical and subtle level.

has been specifically designed to help us reconnect with others. We have all experienced a situation this year unparalleled in any way, it will take time for us all to reconnect and feel at ease among others. With this in mind we have remodeled our retreats:

Style of yoga to be taught
Each morning you will be led in a dynamic vinyasa flow practise. Vinyasa is a breath-led style of yoga, but there will be opportunities for long holds to build strength and flexibility into the body.
Workshops will largely be vinyasa based, but there will be opportunity for self-discovery through discussions and partner work.
In the evenings students will enjoy a more relaxing session of either slow-flow or restorative yoga, gently opening up the body and calming the mind. Restorative yoga uses long holds and plenty of props allow the practitioner’s body to enter a parasympathetic state, our body’s rest and digest mode, where it can literally restore and repair.

There will be one workshop a day, it may be in the morning or afternoon. There is also the option to visit local markets on Wednesday and Sunday.
Your Rustic Retreats Journey
A strong, dynamic vinyasa practice will be balanced with slow and healing restorative classes, to both challenge you and give you a chance to unwind and reflect. Yoga will be taught at an open level so that new practitioners will get as much from the retreat as more seasoned yogis.
Taking inspiration from the Niyamas, or observances, from Yogic philosophy, we will reflect on each of them (contentment, discipline, self-study, cleanliness and surrender) throughout the week, through movement and discussion, finding ways they might inform our lives and yoga practice.
Inquisitive flows will allow you to find the best alignment and support for your body, whilst workshops will give you the chance to hone in on particular aspects of the practice, physical and spiritual. You will be led in different meditation techniques including Zen meditation and metta bhavana.
By the end of the week you’ll have a deeper understanding of your body, your physical ‘patterns’ and you’ll have the tools to develop a personal practice which you can use at home.
Your workshop programme
1 Body Reading
Everyone’s body is completely unique. The body we are born with has it’s own strengths and restrictions. Through our daily activities, life events and sometimes accidents, we add yet more nuance, areas of imbalance and patterns of holding ourselves. As we work with our bodies in yoga we benefit from moving from a place of understanding and respect.
This workshop will use yoga therapy techniques and partner work to observe these patterns, setting a tone of self inquiry for the week.
2 Chaturanga and arm balances
Sometimes arm balances can be skimmed over in ordinary classes, with little opportunity to learn the alignment and theory. This class will start by looking at chaturanga dandasana, the foundation of most arm balances, and then go on to explore a few of the key arm balances s-l-o-w-l-y, giving students the chance to experiment (and sometimes fall!)
Inversions can literally divide a room, with some people building confidence to go upside down and others kicking up at any opportunity. This workshop will allow you to explore inversions in a safe space, thinking about alignment, building strength in the right places, and the all important ‘letting go’. Whether you’ve got a fear of going upside down, or are trying to get away from the wall, you’ll be able to work towards headstand, handstand and forearm balance.
4 Developing your own practice
This workshop will begin to look back at the week, as you start to build a self-practice that you can take with you when you leave, to both continue a regular practice, but also advance and challenge yourself. This workshop will involve a physical practice and some discussion and writing, and you’ll come away with a comprehensive plan.
