Currently “my” yoga is about practicing regularly to keep my body alive and open, to feel myself moving and keep crossing my boundaries bit by bit. It’s also about enjoying meditation: connecting with space of ever expanding inner peace, experiencing silence, feeling alive, energetic and vital.
I like combining Power Yoga and Kundalini Yoga because it provides different experiences and the two beautifully complete each other. Power Yoga wakes up the body, energizes and provides grounding, it’s physical and intense. Kundalini Yoga is an experience of active movement with focus on powerful breathing practices, connection with the group and with the music.
Starting on my own some 15 years ago with magazine photos at my disposal I learnt what I could. Until I found a teacher in 2009 and immediately jumped into the Kundalini Teacher Training. I’d practiced and assisted in teaching while I studied Power Yoga in 2011. What a difference this made! I've been teaching Power Yoga since this moment in the Netherlands and I now continue doing this in Barcelona, Spain. Since 2014 I’ve been learning more about anatomy and pranayama with different teachers. I currently am teaching weekly groups and private classes.
When teaching I approach my students’ needs taking into account what their bodies allow at the moment. I strive to keep the class flowing and take care of everyone. I also include a short pranayama or meditation practice. Sometimes I share short texts to inspire when the moment is right moment.
What is Power yoga?
Power Yoga is very active as it stems from Ashtanga Yoga. We won’t divide anyone into levels. On the contrary Power Yoga invites students to practice as intensively as they prefer since we offer various modifications. Ashtanga Yoga usually is a rigorous practice started by Sun Salutations followed by a set series of asanas. In Power Yoga we play with asanas creating a wide variety of sets of postures depending on the preferences and needs of the students.
You may expect active warm ups with Sun Salutations followed by a set of asanas that may be quite soft like Chair Pose, Warrior I, II or twists. I usually like to include Plank variations to keep the practice “warm”, Back Bands or Hips Openings postures. We always finish with relaxation and close the practice with meditation or pranayama.
Kundalini yoga is like no other and as a beginner you might feel very surprised by mantras used even during performing some postures. Kundalini Yoga has a wide range of already set kriyas (here: sets of asanas) that serve for different purposes. It can be a series to exercise the whole spinal column or to harmonize the work of glandular system or “just” to release toxins. Each exercise last for a couple of minutes and usually is accompanied by deep breathing or breath of fire. But you shouldn’t worry about the timing: the teacher always takes care of that.
Kundalini Yoga classes usually include meditations with beautiful music when the group uses a certain posture and many times we chant with the mantra. Mantras are easy to follow and you will definitely be carried away by the energy of the group, beautiful sound and inner focus.
Kundalini Yoga includes a huge amount of knowledge about numerology, diet and healthy lifestyle, communication, women groups and much more! We will go over some of these subjects during the workshops!
Your Rustic Retreats journey
Kundalini Yoga based workshops will guide you through various practical aspects such as confronting and dealing with emotions, self-care and diet, creativity, discovering influences of life cycles and finding new opportunities for inspiring changes. It will serve as a tour towards (re)connecting with your creative self in your truth and consciousness. Each workshop will cover certain aspects that serve to analyze where you are now and inspire you towards change you desire for yourself, like change in your lifestyle habits, seeing new steps to take on your creative path or learning about other approaches in your communication with others.
During our morning sessions apart from physical practice we will devote a few minutes to silent meditation. In the evenings we will usually meditate with beautiful Kundalini Yoga mantras in our Kundalini Yoga class.

There will be one workshop a day, it may be in the morning or afternoon. There is also the option to visit local markets on Wednesday and Sunday.
Your workshop programme
Confronting and accepting your emotions
During this workshop we will talk about how you approach your emotions now to uncover your patterns. We’ll also talk about addictions and will see how we can let them go. We’ll discover how to dive into your feelings. And very important: we’ll start learning about radical forgiveness, a method designed and described by Colin Tipping. This method can turn around your vision of what happens to you in life! It’s about bringing the responsibility for your life upon yourself, getting out of judgements and blaming others.
I will provide you with the reading for the next day and will explain how to use this method in your life and even already during this retreat. You can see it as preparation for the next workshop when we will talk about conscious communication, which only is possible within the space of truth.
In Kundalini Yoga teachings they say: “We create our world through communication. We manifest our spirit through communication. We can destroy ourselves or someone we love with incorrect communication.“
In this workshop we will talk about communicating sincerely to others..and in first place to ourselves. We’ll also see how to communicate from chakra to chakra to communicate in a more harmonious way. Others subjects will be non-violence and speaking from the heart, manipulations we use and getting offended. We’ll try to honestly take a look at a couple of personal examples and try to find the way to dissolve our patterns.
To kick off this workshop we’ll practice walking meditation to sharpen our awareness. Today we discuss practices of healthy living within Kundalini Yoga tradition, such as water therapy, diet and yoga practice.
This day we will also talk about importance of cleansing the organism: you’ll hear how a few practices work and if you need to know more we can talk more in depth about it later. We’ll also talk of transitioning to raw food which is becoming more and more popular lately.
Lifecycles and Opportunities
You’ll find out about the lifecycles within Kundalini Yoga tradition and will see what part of your lifecycles you’re in. Through that you can find out what challenges are to come – and that should empower you to prepare for what is to come.
We’ll also do a short conscious walk when we’ll hear what messages the plants or trees might have for us.
We’ll do an empowering exercise to uncover what we could strengthen in ourselves and how we can create something new and exciting!
Then we’ll share our experiences in our group to properly integrate them.
This’ll be pure practice to release our creative powers! We’ll express ourselves with a few minutes of dancing (I’ll guide you through the movement to help you release, open up, flow and welcome new chances life has out there waiting for you).
Then we’ll connect with the source of creativity and inspiration and will draw... with eyes closed. This has a purpose of connecting with the creative powers of the Universe to help you hear the calling of your talents and new beautiful opportunities.
After this we’ll share our experiences and insights!
