Summary:

 

  •  Working through the 7 major chakras, focusing on a chakra each day starting from root (muladhara) and working up to crown (sahasrara). Working on a chakra meditation to begin the day and invoke the specific energy using Nada Yoga (sound yoga) and mantra. The asana practice will focus predominantly around stimulating and balancing that chakra and clearing the nadi’s (energy channels). For the travelling days if there is an asana practice we can work on this or work on 1st and 2nd chakras and 6th and 7th chakras in the same days following the Tibetan chakra system.

  • As the first week coincides with summer solstice,  we will theme the week, the yoga practice and the meditations around solstice.

  • Developing inner and outer sacred space, learning to honor your body and sould through establishing a safe and honest practice. Establish where your edge is and when it is/ is not appropriate to work to your edge. Cultivating and supporting depth for your own personal practice.

  • Inversions – inversions are fun and challenging way to deepen your practice. They encourage us to see things from a different perspective. Together we can work on tackling fears, clear up common mis-understandings and overcome challenges you may face with exercises to encourage strength and flexibility. 

  • Back bending – looking at safe ways in your practice to develop spine strength and flexibility starting from wherever you are.

Summer Solstice & Crystals (Theory)

This workshop looks at how this time of year encourages us to celebrate the light, to enable our own light with the light of the summer to bring forth everything that is hidden to blossom.

 

At this point in the year, light is triumphant and the days have become longer than the nights;  this time of year brings new growth bursting with life to demonstrate the exuberant power of light, creativity and purpose.

 

With the summer, we find the energy and freshness in ourselves to break through any darkness and creative inactivity, and we celebrate all the abundant evidence of life’s continuation with joy.

 

The workshop will integrate the use of crystals for new beginnings, rebirth and the finding our way forward towards our destiny for the future and to plant new seeds of hope, creativity and fertility.

 

Chakras, Crystals & the Subtle Energy Bodies (Theory)

This workshop looks specifically at the 7 main energy centres and how they impact on our existence in the world. We will look at how to recognise what is happening within your own energy centres and look at using crystals and other techniques to energetically clear and restore balance.

 

Mantra (Theory)

Within this workshop we will take a look at working with mantra, chanting in sanskrit and looking at the seed sounds for each chakra (energy centre).

 

Inversions & Backward Bending (Practical)

Taking a look at the king and queen of the asanas, Headstand and Shoulderstand along with some practice and drills for handstands, forearm stands. We will also look at backward bending and how to approach backward bends open the back safely.

 

Warriors (Practical)

We will look at the various ‘warriors’ focusing on strength in these particular postures with  alignment cues for the hips, knees and ankles to keep your body safe. We will also take a look at  the story behind the warrior postures  

Your Teacher: Charlie Merton

 

I began practicing Yoga over a decade ago in about 2002, during that time I explored and studied range of styles. I qualified as an Integral Hatha Yoga teacher in 2011 and have been teaching yoga full time since 2013. I have a fun, creative and flowing teaching style, offering progressive sequencing and variations inviting students to use their inner wisdom.

 

I will be teaching Hatha-Flow for the morning Asana Classes, which blends the powerful foundations of tradition Hatha postures with the fluidity of movement from a flow practice. The afternoon class will be a Yin Restorative practice, you will be led through a slow mindful practice of deeply nourishing, heart and hip opening asana.

 

I am a compassionate teacher who focuses on making asana (postures) practice accessible to everyone of all ages, experiences and physical limitations. I have a strong grounding in the philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga which has formed the foundation of my teaching approach and style.
