Alix Tinkler

I love to promote self discovery through the depth of my practice and understanding by sharing meditation and mindfulness in a fun playful way. Physically, mentally and spiritually I have learned that this journey is limitless and forever expanding. My love for yoga started in 2002 as a way of dealing with back pain, a result of an arthritic condition.

In discovering the benefits of yoga, I travelled to India to further explore this ancient practice and I became further inspired to begin teacher training. This began with a 200 hour Vinyasa teacher training with Frog Lotus in Spain and then Prenatal Yoga teacher training with Bliss Baby Yoga in Byron Bay Australia.

With continuous training and workshops I have developed the capacity to weave a vibrant energetic thread through my dynamic Vinyasa classes.

I have an extensive understanding of yoga philosophy and mediation having studied the Bhagavad Gita with Mauire Earls and Vipassana meditation in Puna which has given me the backbone to embrace ancient yoga wisdom to lead a more peaceful modern life.

Styles of yoga to be taught

My classes are customised, creating fun variable flows to suit beginners to advanced. With focus on alignment and pranayama techniques I will create a safe space to explore your edge and go a little deeper. My classes are elementally inspired, changing with the seasonal energy, connecting to nature’s calling, slowing things down with the winter months and establishing roots and new growth in the spring.

My love for Vinyasa lends itself to a free flowing Hatha-inspired style, yet has elements of Kundalini and Yin to become fully immersed in the Prana of your experience. Morning classes are generally more connected to our Udana energy, Solar Plexus and Heart Chakra feeling lifted and ignited.

Evening classes will connect you to your Apana and Samana energy, earth and water focusing on the lower two chakras. With my new passion being in chakra healing  I have discovered the power in aligning these energy hubs within the body on a cellular level to be more courageous, confident, free, empowered and balanced.

What if our religion was each other?

If our practice was our life?

If prayer was our words?

What if the Temple was the Earth?

If forests were our church?

If holy water—the rivers, lakes and oceans?

What if meditation was our relationships?

If the Teacher was life?

If wisdom was self-knowledge?

If love was the center of our being…

Your Rustic Retreats Journey

During this retreat you will be taken on a journey exploring the seven main chakras and the eight limb path of yoga. The classes will be physically connecting us to each chakra and the workshops will transport us to gain a deeper meaning and understanding to integrate a more balanced life.

There will be two daily guided meditations where we will discover our unique challenges and strengths and this will allow us to tune into the subtle energies within our physical and emotional bodies.

Using visualisations, pranayama techniques and exploring some mantras and their meaning you will also discover a different form of divinity by using Yantra cards by witnessing the crossover from the conscious and the subconscious states to intuitively represent a meaning that can’t be explained, but can be answered within your own meditation.

Surrender to the bliss of opening the heart and hips

The daily workshops will expand on these reflective experiences you have created from your visualisations and take you to a place where you can surrender to the bliss of opening the heart and the hips.

Finding a place to let go, being fully immersed in mindful movement meditation these yin style workshops are dedicated to let you experience your own true intuitive nature. You will play with your vibrant imagination with chakra workshops including drawing mandalas and creating your own affirmations.

You will instinctively use these colourful foundations to create a profound sense of awakening your soul as you align, rejuvenate and marinate in the vibrational energy of the seven main chakras throughout the morning and evening classes to form the strongest connection with your highest self.

“As animals we walk the earth. As bearers of divine essence, we are among the stars. As human beings we are caught in the middle, seeking to reconcile the paradox of how to make our way upon the earth while striving for something more permanent and more profound.” B.K.S Iyengar

Your workshop programme

Chakra workshop A - Theory and drawing

We will gather in a circle and share discussions about what we already may or may not know about the seven main chakras. The literal meaning of the word chakra is ‘wheel’ or ‘circle’. The chakras relate to physiological as well as psychic centres in the body.

Taking time to go deeper, sharing, listening and opening our hearts, we will start unraveling the colours, qualities and internal dialogue that manifests within these vibrational hubs. During our daily meditations and visualisations, life will reveal itself to you softly in harmony illuminating your truth. We can cultivate a connection to each chakra, from the crown to the root, by tapping into these sensations, slowing things down, listening to the stillness. Where do you hold on and where do you let go?

You don’t have to be an artist to have some fun with water colours and pencils. Have you ever wondered what these thoughts and feelings would look like if we could just let go and transfer emotions through a paint brush? There is no right or wrong, playing with colours, we will be creating beautiful mandalas that we can place around the retreat or in our rooms. Your chakra awakening journey has only just begun!

Chakra workshop B - Creating affirmations, learning about pranayama, bandhas, mudras, vayu energies

We will gather in a circle, to share and reflect on any subtle shifts or sensations we might be starting to observe. Just taking a moment to visualise the seven chakras will open up a tropical oasis for us to explore! As we travel a little deeper into our hearts we will be creating a space where we can see our true colours, challenges and strengths. We will use this opportunity to create seven affirmations that allow us to resonate with each chakra.

Honoring this sacred space in the heart these affirmations will guide you on your path when we unite them with different styles of pranayama and activation of the bandhas and mudras.

We will be shifting stagnant energy and emotions in the body that have been laying dormant, asleep or simply undeveloped to awaken our cosmic awareness.

Coming out of this physical body where the concepts of time, space and object are completely lost is where your true nature resides.

Practical workshop - Heart opening (backbends) to activate Anahata/Vishuddhi

Getting back on the mats for a slow and considered Yin practice, we will be harnessing our new techniques to illuminate our physical experience. The fourth chakra is Anahata, controlling the function of the heart and the lungs. The fifth chakra is Vishuddhi, controlling the thyroid complex and some systems of articulation.

With this heart opening sequence you will incorporate your affirmations and be guided through pranayama techniques that will transport you to a new level of spiritual consciousness. Finding a new perspective, tapping into biological rhythms, moving from the left and right hemispheres of the brain, this powerful experience will ground you and establish your true sense of unity with self and oneness with the world.

Practical workshop - Hip opening to activate Muladhara/Svadhishthana/Manipura

Another Yin practice for those who love long holds and hip openings. We will build a strong understanding about our anatomy and alignment. By balancing the three lower chakras this workshop will connect all the dots. We will enjoy the sleepy dreamy fluctuation between sleep and wake cycles, finding our edge and grounding down.

Physically breaking down connective tissues in the hips will help us break down emotional baggage in our lives we no longer need to hang on to. Experiencing the alignment of these three chakras will reinforce your affirmations to a new dimension, to grow with integrity, balance, vitality and truth. Stimulating this internal dialogue is the most powerful technique for awakening our hearts and transforming our lives.

Sacred Closing Circle

We will celebrate with a sacred closing circle at the end of the week. This will be our time to reflect and feel fully connected, healed, nourished and nurtured from our journey of deep self discovery. With an open heart, we find gratitude for all the blessings we have in our worlds, from this place of gratitude we find compassion to share both to oneself and to others. With a musical twist we will seal our experience with a chant that will remain a vibration in your heart forever.
